With the upcoming release of Kartega, I get a lot of questions about who the protagonist of this book and what she is like. Instead of me droning on over a character description, I thought I’d let Sid tell you more about herself in this interview. She’s one quirky girl and I can’t wait to hear what she has to tell you! Please welcome to the blog, Sid from Kartega.
1. What is your full name? Do you have a nickname?
My name is Sidarius which is pretty over the top so most people just call me Sid.
2. Where were you born?
From what Colton tells me, I was born on Neostar; the best place in the entire universe! But I didn’t get to stay for long and since Colton is a grade-A human, he rescued me from a stardamned horrible situation. Now I get to see Neostar anytime I want from my spaceship and trust me when I tell you, it’s magic!
3. Who were your parents?
My parents were Domers. That’s what the Citizens (Colton’s people) call the native inhabitants of Neostar since they live in dome-like structures on the star. I don’t know much about me except that they threw me away and Colton saved me from them. Now he’s my family; him and my ship, of course.
4. Where do you live now?
I live on a rust bucket that hurdles through space, orbiting beautiful Neostar every stardamned day and night. It’s a lot of work maintaining my home but I love the piece of junk. Colton says it keeps me safe so I take good care of it, even if it does drive me crazy sometimes. It’s an old ship, more like the ones Colton’s people used before they came to Neostar, and has everything I need. Everything except people but you get used to it.
5. Do you have a motto? If so, what is it?
Never use your magic, especially if you’re not alone. It’s not safe to use my magic and it’s one of Colton’s only rules for me. He never tells me what to do so I figure it’s important.
6. What is your hair color and eye color?
I have white hair and grey eyes. The color of, what’s that word, snow. Yes, that’s what the humans call it I think.
7. What kind of distinguishing facial features do you have?
My stardamned Domer eyes. I hate them. They look like feline eyes and the only thing that make me look different from the humans. I wish I didn’t have them because when I final get to go to Neostar to live with Colton and his people, I want to look like all the Citizens and not those dumb Domers noone likes.
8. Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
Stardamn, star daughter, starspit. Any curse words will do. I’m supposed to watch my language but who’s here to stop me?
9. What are your favorite hobbies and pastimes?
I love to learn the history of Neostar and spend most of my days studying. When I’m not fixing my ship, I tend to lounge in the controller chair of the observation deck, daydreaming about Neostar and watching telescreen recordings of it.
10. What is your favorite food?
Sweets. Always sweets. My favorite are soy puffs; I could eat an entire box in one sitting!
11. What is your most treasured possession?
The goggles Colton gave me when I was little because they hide my stupid Domer eyes.
12. Where would you like to live? Why?
Neostar, obviously. It’s only the best place in the universe! I want to live in the Towers with Colton and the rest of the human Citizens. But mostly, I just want to meet Queen Leona. Just thinking about it makes me want to float myself off the ship. She’s magical!
13. If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left.
Move to Neostar. Get a job as a mechanic for the Circulum System that holds the star together. Meet the queen. In that order.
