I’ve been seeing the Save the Cat plotting technique all over social media lately and, being the nosy creature that I am, had to jump on the band wagon! Since I already had a beat structure in place for The Enuma Legacies, I decided to test out the system on the new series I’m working on.
So what did I think of it?
To start, the book was a very engaging read. For the most part, I didn’t feel like I was reading an instructional book at all. It was entertaining, funny at times, and really informative at the same time. I love this!
When it came time to use the system in my plotting, I couldn’t believe how useful it was. I mean, sure, I was expecting it to be a good resource but I didn’t think that it would work this well. The story formed perfectly and I was even able to add to better character descriptions by using ideas from the book.
All in all, I am really pleased with this purchase. I don’t know if I will be using it for every book I write but parts of the beat structure will most definitely be working their way unto the pages!
What’s your favorite plotting technique? Would love some more ideas!
Stay magical,
Alexis.
